Sweet Pink Grapefruit has circulated through Vancouver for over thirty five years and it is the plant Breeder Steve built Spice of Life around. It is also the most dominant breeding female most people will ever work with: in his own trials, 498 out of 500 F1 plants came back resembling her. Crossed to the Kate Upton Star Dawg, that dominance is the whole proposition.
The Cross
Two geographically distinct elite lineages collided on purpose. Breeder Steve‘s Vancouver work on one side, JJ NYC’s New York Chemdog dynasty on the other.
The composition traces to four sources: 50% Northern Lights #1 through the mother, 25% Chemdog 4 and 12.5% Chem D through the father, and 12.5% Afghan #1 anchoring the base.
The Parents
The Sweet Pink Grapefruit clone has moved through Vancouver for over thirty five years and it is synonymous with the BC Bud that defined that market. The best genealogical evidence points to it being a unique phenotype of Northern Lights #1, but where standard NL of that era was earthy, SPG was an anomaly, and that expression is what caught Breeder Steve’s attention. He founded Spice of Life Seeds in 1995 and built his program on her, including the 1996 cross to DJ Short‘s Blueberry male that produced the Sweet Tooth line and its cup wins.
Her defining trait as a breeding plant is dominance. Steve grew out 500 F1 seeds from SPG crossed to a Northern Lights and Haze male. 498 came back resembling the mother. Two expressed recessive Haze traits. That kind of consistency is close to unheard of in a polyhybrid, and it is exactly why she was chosen here: she acts as a reliable template with the Star Dawg layered on top.
Star Dawg is Chem 4 crossed to Tres Dawg, from JJ NYC at Top Dawg Seeds. The Kate Upton cut contributes the stocky frame.
What’s In The Pack
Ten regular photoperiod seeds, males included. Given the mother’s dominance, this is an unusually low risk pack to hunt. The question is which plant you keep, not whether you get one.
In The Garden
62-75 days. Moderate difficulty, medium to high yield, on the Kate Upton frame.
